Wasting Seminary

I’ve been meaning to point this out ever since it was posted, but so much has been going on I haven’t had the time. So, if you haven’t already seen it by now, check out Derek’s list of 45 Ways to Waste Your Theological Education.

I was digging #’s 2, 19, 20, 25, 36, 45 and, for those interested, Terry will be tackling #20 in a upcoming post. Surely with all those numerical references you’re intrigued enough to go check out his list!

After you read it, let me know your thoughts.

  • I read this a few days ago and I agree with Kari….this should be distributed at orientation. My seminary is predominantly filled with students that have to have an Mdiv to be ordained so this is very useful to make sure you are not just “cruising through”.

  • MAN!
this is really great stuff. I especially agree with the points about (my own words here) “if you are called to preach, seek out opportunities to preach” I too am part of a seminary community that their first “real” sermons arent until they have left the “ministry training” place called seminary….this is sad and small.
This list will be at least a monthly viewing for me to keep me in check, thanks Ryan!

  • What a list.

    Best (or worst?), most needed for me: #4, 6, 18, 20, 22, 23, 32, 39, 41. Looking forward to Terry’s post on #20 (friendships).

Perhaps Derek will give us 45 ways to get the most out of seminary too?

  • I think we could, as a group, work on this list and report our findings here on the site. It would help all of us to do take advantage of our time in school as well as encourage others to do so as well.
