Blogging my way though seminary

Ok… not everyone is a blogger. But if you are, did you know that there is actually lots of money to be made in blogging? Now, I know what you’re thinking… Writing my opinions about things and getting paid… SWEET!

Well, if it were only that easy. The fact of the matter is that it can take a lot of time and effort to get going as a professional blogger. If you don’t already have a blog, then don’t expect to get rich quick… in fact, don’t expect to get paid. The key to getting paid is two fold.

  1. Get a lot of visitors to your site
  2. Get them to visit your sponsors site’s and buy something

Seems pretty straight forward, but it isn’t as easy as it sounds. If you’re interested in learning more about how to become a pro blogger, then visit problogger.com. He’s got all you need and more in order to get on your way.

Now, if you already have a blog and want to try and make some money off it, then you can always add Google AdSense to you site.

Now, the only warning about AdSense is that it might send your readers to sites that you might disagree with theologically. Also, I put AdSense on one of my sites once and and it kept advertising “Pastor Ringtones.” Uh… so, yeah.

A much better option for getting sponsors is to start an account at commission junction. The great thing here is that you can begin relationships with advertisers who have products that your readers can actually benefit from. So, for example, the advertisers you see at goingtoseminary.com are all things that I think you can use like:

See, all these advertisers offer something that we all can use. Insurance, scholarships, sweet computers… All things you need when going to seminary.

So, if you up for the adventure, give it a try… but only do it if you really love blogging… because, in the end, if you don’t make the money you hoped for, at least you got to blog.
